Yesterday, over 1000 people lined up as early 5:00 A.M. in City of Fullerton, to get a turkey and groceries. Let us remember that during this thanksgiving season many of our constituents are on the brink of being evicted, losing their businesses, and homes. Let’s cherish people, not things, let’s give what we can to others, and let’s reuse, recycle, and help where needed.
Yesterday, I held my first committee hearing as the new Chair of the Assembly Committee on Arts, Entertainment, Sports, Tourism and Internet Media. As a committee we gathered to hear from tourism experts on the impact of the pandemic on the industry. The tourism sector has been hit very hard in this pandemic and we are working hard to help all our sectors return back to business safely. If you are thinking of a short trip, choose California! #visitcalifornia #tourism
I am happy to celebrate the City of Fullerton’s groundbreaking of the newest park in town, Pearl Park! This project has been years in the making and will provide a basketball court, play structure, rain garden and more. Thanks to a grant from the Prop 68 Statewide Park Development and Community Revitalization Program, funds from the St. Jude HEAL Grant and additional Park Dwelling Funds, Pearl Park will soon be a reality. The park is projected to be completed by October and will provide a great new location for children and families to exercise and play!
Thank you American Red Cross for hosting another successful Blood Drive with our office in City of La Palma. I am proud to say, we filled up all available slots very quickly and were able to help 120 people receive blood. The Red Cross is still in need of blood donations, now more than ever, due to the pandemic and California fires. We hope you can get out and donate. Thank you all that participated in our blood drive.
Thank you to all our courageous firefighters battling the flames affecting our entire State. They continue to work strenuous shifts in hazardous conditions on the front lines of these wildfires. Thank you to all who opened their doors for evacuees, we all owe you a debt of gratitude.
I am proud to celebrate the groundbreaking for the Korean War Memorial in the City of Fullerton! As a daughter of a Korean War Veteran, I believe it is important that we honor the bravery and valor shown by our fallen soldiers. I look forward to having this monument stand in the City of Fullerton to unite our community for generations.
For those who are not familiar, The City of Fullerton has a Sister City in South Korea, which I had the pleasure to visit last year. Yongin is the newest Sister City for Fullerton and is located about 40km south of Seoul. During my visit to Seoul, Korea, I was also able to visit their country’s War Museum and I left with a profound appreciation and respect for the display of reverence they show for all of their fallen soldiers. As an Honorary member of the Orange County Korean War Memorial Committee, thanks to our incredible Field Representative, Joe Pak, I am truly grateful to see this ground breaking taking place. This project has been in the works for many years.
Congratulations to the City of Buena Park and the Buena Park Historical Society for preserving history through renovations to the Whitaker-Jaynes Estates and Bacon House.
This house remains a cornerstone for our community and I am proud that our $500,000 allocated funding could bring this rich history to continue to be enjoyed for future generations.
There's some fascinating history behind the Whitaker-Jaynes Estate. In 1885 James A. Whitaker bought 690 acres of land which would later be subdivided, twenty of those acres went to one of his brothers, Andrew. The Whitaker-Jaynes House was built for Andrew in 1887 when he came from Indiana. In 1965 the city of Buena Vista bought the house and created a park on surrounding land. Whitaker-Jaynes Estate was the first house to become part of the Historical District. The House remains a staple of history for the City of Buena Park.
I would like to take a moment to celebrate the incredible women that took part in my first annual Bold Women of Color Event.
I have been fortunate to work with so many amazing women and blessed to have them serving with me and making all of our communities stronger. Let us continue to support our women in leadership! #bwoc #womeninpolitics
