Covered California special-enrollment period is now open

Covered California officially opened a special-enrollment period to allow Californians to benefit from lower health insurance premiums available because of the American Rescue Plan. The law uses the Affordable Care Act to respond to the economic crisis caused by the pandemic by providing new and expanded subsidies. Covered California estimates the subsidies will help 2.5 million Californians, particularly low-and middle-income consumers who have been hardest hit by the pandemic and recession.  California is estimated to receive in the coming months $3 billion in federal dollars to strengthen the state’s economy by helping eligible consumers save thousands of dollars between now and the end of 2022, when the subsidies are currently set to expire.
