Congratulations to Carlos Martinez for earning a $5,000 scholarship from the California Latino Legislative Caucus Foundation I am always proud to see former students from Richman Elementary go on and succeed. Carlos is entering into his 2L year at UCLA School of Law and resides in the City of Fullerton. As a graduate of Fullerton Union High School in 2015, Carlos has gone on to pursue a career as a transactional lawyer.
The California Latino Legislative Caucus Foundation (CLLCF) announced 52 students from across the state selected to receive a 2020 CLLCF Scholarship worth $5,000. In its sixth year of operation, the CLLCF Scholarship Program received a record-number of over 1,266 applications.
Carlos mentioned that, “growing up in a working class family of six, I have always been aware that the biggest obstacle to my success is the financial costs of higher education. I would like to encourage students of diverse backgrounds to seek broader career opportunities such as law and to not let your past define you.” With this scholarship we are assisting Carlos to be one step closer to his dreams
Today, is Catherine Quirk's 30th Birthday! We have had the opportunity to live with Cat and Chris since they moved back from Seattle, last November. What a pleasure: cooking, talking, watching movies, and just getting to see how determined and fun this girl has grown up to be. I am extremely proud of you Catherine. Happy Birthday!
Our office participated with our fellow North Orange County elected officials in the grand opening of The City of Buena Park’s Navigation Center. This North OC SPA cities and county partnership that united with the collective goal to provide our homeless residents with shelter, wrap-around services, and a path towards permanent housing. This marks a giant step in addressing homelessness in our community.

Happy Birthday to my mom, Joi, 83 years young today!
My mom is one of my favorite humans: funny, hardworking, and loving to all.
She has been a trooper since a very young age. As a teen mom, and having 10 kids - yes 10 - she has spent her life working, raising children, grandchildren, and her share of suffering with the loss of my two brothers.
Yet, my mother is resilient. She continues to love the beach, and all family-related activities. She has been there for graduations, birthdays, school plays, baby showers, weddings, and anything we need and ask from her.
I remember my mom staying up all night and sewing an outfit when I was in Junior High, because I really wanted it. She taught me about faith, about being selfless, and she never gives up.
I am happy to spend a lot of time with her. I know I am blessed, as some have lost their moms, but if your mom is still here, hug and call them.
Love to all moms, especially mine, Josephine!
Today I had the privilege to present with AT&T Assistant Vice President, Mr. Richard Porras the following Investing in California Grant checks to our, more than deserving, non-profit organizations. The three non-profit organizations that have earned these grants were CSUF Center for Healthy Neighborhoods, operating at the Richman Community Center, Pathways of Hope, and Korean Community Center.
These funds from AT&T will be used towards a number of unique and significant program. From assisting low-income families with mental health support, referrals and filling out forms for COVID-Relief funds, providing rental assistance for one family household impacted by the pandemic, and supporting health care services during the pandemic.
I would like to thank AT&T for offering these grants to the amazing non-profits that continue to serve the 65th Assembly District. I am confident that this grant money will truly make a huge significant impact for all of our non-profits involved.
