Did you know that 50% of California State University, Fullerton students are Latino/Hispanic? It is great to see so many Latino Leaders supporting this great institution of Higher Education and embracing our Hispanic and Latino Roots!
Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva (D – Fullerton) proudly hosted the first annual 65th Assembly District Recognition Awards, to honor individuals who have provided services and exemplified characteristics valued in the 65th Assembly District.
The event was hosted in the City of Buena Park at Elher’s Senior Center to honor local businesses, nonprofits, veterans, gentleman, women, and holocaust survivors. Due to the pandemic, many events and celebrations honoring the community members in the 65th Assembly District were prevented or cancelled. The fantastic work done by all of the recipients this past year, was a true display of perseverance and commitment.
“I have been inspired and moved by the wonderful stories that all the honorees have shared with our office,” said Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva. “Sadly, the pandemic has not allowed many of us to have a cause for celebration, but the following honorees have provided us a great reason to gather together and celebrate their great service and accomplishments in the community!”
The 65th Assembly District Recognition Event was coordinated by the office of Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva and honored individuals who have excelled in their contributions to the community. The event recognized honorees in several categories and all were presented with State Assembly Resolutions.
Congratulations to all the bright, self-motivated, energetic high school sophomores and juniors that were a part of our Young Legislator program this year!
The Young Legislators Program gives students the opportunity to learn the inner workings of state government, and the legislative process.
The Young Legislators met regularly with our office to discuss issues important to their communities, share ideas on youth related issues, and explore the possibility of a career in public service.
Today, I hosted another one of our series of hearings with the Assembly Committee on Arts, Entertainment, Sports, Tourism and Internet Media. We gathered together with experts from NCAA Division I Schools, members of the California Interscholastic Federation and California State Athletic Commission, USA Boxing, and Dr. Pan leader of California State COVID-19 response. As these experts shared their insight we were able to explore and discuss the future and safe return of athletics in California.
