OC Veteranâs Cemetery Bill Approved by Senate Veterans Affairs Committee
SACRAMENTO, CA â The State Senate Veterans Affairs Committee voted 5-0 on June 25 to approve Assembly Bill (AB) 368 by Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva (D â Fullerton). AB 368 designates the ARDA site in the Orange County Great Park as the location for a Southern California Veteranâs Memorial Park & Cemetery.
âIt is clear that an Orange County Veteranâs Cemetery is essential, as many veterans and their familyâs needs are not being met by the existing Veteranâs Cemeteries,â said Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva. âWe need a site for the Southern California Veteranâs Cemetery that will serve and recognize the many Californians who made great sacrifices for this nation.â
Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva requested the audit a little over a year ago - after the U-C audit disclosed more than 170 million dollars were not disclosed and kept hidden. Quirk-Silva says for her, this is all about transparency. "When the legislature is asked to invest more dollars because the emphasis is they don't have enough money and they raise tuition and you see there is actually a pretty healthy reserve slash surplus, I think we should be aware of that," said Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva.
The California state auditor today reported that the CSU has been funneling hundreds of millions to accounts outside of the State Treasury, disregarded state laws, and used millions of dollars in revenue from campus parking permit fees to fund projects unrelated to the CSU parking program. Through the audit, it was discovered that the surplus from these fees were hidden in separate accounts from public and state overview.
âUnfortunately, the state auditor has again uncovered violations and waste that occur when we allow CSU to operate its campuses without adequate state oversight or accountability,â said Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva. âThe legislature must enact measures to ensure state funds cannot be hidden in outside accounts and are being spent in the best interests of students.â

âI am pleased to bring vital resources back to our community,â said Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva. âHaving a generous budget of $100,000 allotted to the Korean Federation Sprinkler System provides us the opportunity to assist in building a better infrastructure for the city.â
