Hidden Parking Revenues: CSU Concealed Millions and Violated State Laws

The California state auditor today reported that the CSU has been funneling hundreds of millions to accounts outside of the State Treasury, disregarded state laws, and used millions of dollars in revenue from campus parking permit fees to fund projects unrelated to the CSU parking program. Through the audit, it was discovered that the surplus from these fees were hidden in separate accounts from public and state overview.

“Unfortunately, the state auditor has again uncovered violations and waste that occur when we allow CSU to operate its campuses without adequate state oversight or accountability,” said Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva. “The legislature must enact measures to ensure state funds cannot be hidden in outside accounts and are being spent in the best interests of students.”

ORANGE COUNTY – California passed the 2019-2020 fiscal year budget yesterday, with many community groups receiving significant budget wins.  Through the Administration of Natural Resources Agency our district was able to receive a generous amount of funding for a variety of interests.

“I am pleased to bring vital resources back to our community,” said Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva. “Having a generous budget of $100,000 allotted to the Korean Federation Sprinkler System provides us the opportunity to assist in building a better infrastructure for the city.”

CALMatters: California Assembly’s new rules have led to legislative censorship

A wonderful piece shared by CAL Matters discussing how the new rules in California Assembly has led to a mass censorship and limited the hearing of bills.

The public deserves to have their voices and legislative ideas heard. For the sake of our constituents and all Californians, we should not be censoring what comes before the Legislature.

This path is sure to lead us down a dark road that is anything but democratic.

Nicolas Junior High School "Schools to Watch" Awardee

Today, my office attended a celebration at Nicolas Junior High School in Fullerton. Nicolas Junior High School was awarded as one of the “Schools to Watch” in California. Each year, the School to Watch-Taking Center Stage program awards high-performing schools that are responsive to the individual learning needs of their students and develop an equitable learning environment.

Congratulations on this fantastic honor Nicolas Junior High.

And my husband, Jesus teaches there!

Quirk-Silva’s Fairview Proposal gets included in May Revision

SACRAMENTO – Today, Governor Gavin Newson announced his adoption of Orange County Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva’s proposal that seeks to provide options at the State’s Fairview Developmental Center, for Orange County’s homeless.

To address the immediate crisis of homelessness and severe medically ill Orange County residents, the Governor has included authorization to move forward to house and treat approximately 200 OC residents who have no shelter, security or medical treatment.

Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva, author of Assembly Bill 1295, which is reflected in the Governor’s budget proposal, was humbled and quick to praise the Governor’s support for the consideration of the Fairview state property for Orange County’s neediest and despairing residents.  The Assemblywoman stated that, “These men and women are our hidden neighbors; they come from all over Orange County, and need shelter and medical care, in order to find stability and hope.”
