Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva Assists Students to Receive Scholarships

ORANGE COUNTY – Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva (D – Fullerton) is proud to acknowledge two recipients of this CLLCF scholarship. Luis Antonio Estrada Rivera and Stephanie Nguyen both from Buena Park were each selected as scholarship recipients.  Luis Antonio Estrada Rivera will be attending UC Merced this upcoming fall and Stephanie Nguyen will be attending UC Santa Barbara.

The California Latino Legislative Caucus Foundation (CLLCF) announced today 50 students from across the state who have been selected to receive a 2019 CLLCF Scholarship, which aids eligible students admitted to or currently enrolled at an accredited college or university.

“I am excited to see the enthusiasm in higher education by the youth in our district,” said Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva.  “I am hopeful for the future of our district and know that these two recipients are well deserving of these scholarships.”

In its fifth year of operation, the CLLCF Scholarship Program received a record-number of over 1,200 applications from throughout California. Winners were selected from the highly competitive pool of applicants and evaluated using the following criteria: academic performance, personal statements, extracurricular activities, leadership positions held, special awards and honors received, and work history. Each winner will receive a $5,000 scholarship to support their education.

We are so excited that the enthusiasm around our Latino Caucus Foundation Scholarship continues to grow as we received more applicants for the program than ever before,” said Caucus Chairwoman, Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez (D-San Diego). “These 50 hardworking students have defied unimaginable odds and obstacles. By supporting their efforts with these $5,000 scholarships, we are helping our next generation of leaders who we know will make positive change in our state.”
