Fullerton’s Hunt Library Gets a New Life. Will Its Biggest Champions Be a Part of It?

Mid-century modern architecture isn’t always well respected, and Orange County has a checkered relationship with its masterpieces from that era. Significant buildings by Richard Neutra, William Periera, Rudolf Schindler and others haven’t always been treated well here.

 California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) on Monday ordered several indoor activities and all bar operations to shut down across the state as it grapples with growing coronavirus case numbers.

The governor announced in a press briefing that restaurants, wineries, movie theaters, family entertainment venues, zoos, museums and card rooms will shut down all indoor operations. Governor Newsom also said that bars must close down entirely. 

With the signing of the new state budget, Gov. Gavin Newsom brought $24.5 million in funding back to the Orange County Veterans Cemetery project, but questions still linger over what will be the next steps in its development. 

The funding was originally pulled in Newsom’s proposed budget in May.

Orange County bars have been shut down by county Interim Health Officer Dr. Clayton Chau ahead of the Fourth of July weekend to address the spike in COVID-19 positive testing and hospitalizations. With a strong likelihood of a significant and increasing number of cases of community transmission to occur, we respectfully request for everyone to be safe and wear a mask!

Evictions resumed this month in San Bernardino County, with sheriff’s deputies processing move-out orders pending from before the coronavirus emergency started in mid-March, a sheriff’s spokeswoman said.

That means two counties in Southern California have resumed efforts to whittle eviction backlogs. Orange County began evicting tenants at the start of June.

Los Angeles and Riverside counties still have all evictions on hold, sheriffs spokespeople told the Southern California News Group.

California is the nation’s most populous state, and it’s also one of the most diverse. Hispanics surpassed whites in 2015 as the state’s largest ethnic group. The Fullerton City Council unanimously approved the applicant recommended by a review panel to begin engagement with the city about providing programming and renovations to the Hunt Branch Library campus.
