I could not be prouder of those graduating in the Class of 2020. Graduating is a big achievement under any circumstances, as many have overcome serious obstacles along the way to get to this goal. Whether it was an illness, family loss, or living in a neighborhood where you and your classmates are often counted out, you achieved your goal of graduation!
Today, our students face a scholastic world that have the added pressure of social media, reports of school shootings, and the growing global concerns. Due to the pandemic, our world has been turned upside down. While many of you were preparing for finals, proms, senior nights, and graduation parties, you are unfortunately having to hear your parents talk about The Last Dance or Tiger King's Carol Baskins. Not exactly what you imagined when you entered your last year.
Lastly, I hope that all of our graduates learned one more important lesson through this pandemic. That is big accomplishments are not done alone. So congratulations to the teachers, coaches, and most important, the parents and families who have guided you to this wonderful achievement.
