(Sacramento) â When the State Assembly debated Assembly Concurrent Resolution 1, Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva (D-Fullerton) stood in strong support of ACR 1, which proclaims February 19, 2017 as the 75th Anniversary of the issuance of Executive Order 9066 and recognizes a Day of Remembrance in California. On February 19, 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, which led to the forced removal and incarceration of over 120,000 persons of Japanese ancestry living on the West Coast. âAs we look today and we think about what we hear and the rhetoric we hear throughout our nation, it is time for us to pause and look at each other neighbor to neighbor, friend to friend and know that we are a country that believes in rights,â said Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva.
