Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva Congratulates California State University, Fullerton

Named 2020 Champion of Higher Education

Fullerton, CA - Assemblymember Sharon Quirk-Silva (D-Fullerton) is proud to congratulate California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) on being named the 2020 Champion of Higher Education by the Campaign for College Opportunity. CSUF is being recognized for their extraordinary work in ensuring a strong and seamless transfer pathway between California Community Colleges and California State University.

The Campaign for College Opportunity’s mission is to ensure all Californians have an equal opportunity to not only attend, but to succeed in college in order to build a vibrant workforce, economy, and democracy. Only four percent of the 2.3 million students enrolled in a California Community College transfer annually and fewer than 40% of Latino, Black, and Pacific Islander community college students earn a certificate, associate degree, or transfer after six years. In an effort to change this, the Campaign for College Opportunity championed legislation to provide a clearer pathway for our community college students to earn a bachelor’s degree by transferring through the Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT).

“I commend the Campaign for College Opportunity’s dedication to ensuring a quality education for college students,” said Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva.  “CSUF is an integral part of the Assembly District 65 community and as a former teacher for 30 years and CSUF Titan, I’m proud of the leadership the university has taken to provide opportunities for all students to accomplish their education goals,” said Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva.
