Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva Appointed Chair of the Assembly Committee on Arts, Entertainment, Sports, Tourism, and Internet Media
Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva (D-Fullerton) has been appointed, Chair of the Assembly Committee on Arts, Entertainment, Sports, Tourism, and Internet Media. This is a victory for the district, as the Assemblywoman has an abundance of amusement parks, entertainment, sports, beaches, and tourism around her district.
“I am thrilled to be the chair of this dynamic committee, as Orange County is booming with entertainment,” said Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva. “The district and county host prominent attractions that contribute significantly to our economy, such as Knott’s Berry Farm, Disneyland, California Adventure, Downtown Disney, the Honda Center, and many more. I would like to thank the Speaker for appointing me to such an important committee.”
“I'm pleased to appoint Assemblymember Quirk-Silva to this committee at a time when the people under its jurisdiction are experiencing heavy impacts from the COVID pandemic. Her knowledge in this area is important, and it gives me an opportunity to put another qualified woman at the helm of one of the Assembly's key committees,” said Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood).
The Assemblywoman seeks to focus on expanding tourism in California, keeping the entertainment industry in the state, and working towards equity in the arts and entertainment industries. Arts and technology contribute significantly to innovation, which California has been a leader in. The role that technology and the internet plays in California is crucial in this digital time and age.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has brought to light many issues in California, including the digital divide, which has affected low-income households and our children”, said Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva. “As a former teacher, I will do everything I can to work on the digital divide. This week, I will begin my work on this important committee.”
