Assembly District 65 Youth Present Powerful Voices through Art
Sacramento, CA - Assemblymember Sharon Quirk-Silva (D-Fullerton) announced the winners of the art contest yesterday which focused on creating an art poster to help raise awareness of the California Department of Public Health's recommended guidelines of wearing a facial mask in public. The contest was open to youth ages 8 through 17 who reside in the 65th Assembly District.
"COVID-19 has affected everyone in our state. Wearing a mask is one of the most important things we can do as a community to help fight this pandemic," said Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva. "This was an opportunity for our youth to be creative, help spread an important message, and to be a part of raising awareness for our community," said Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva.
The California Department of Public Health has established guidelines to reduce the spread of COVID-19 which includes the use of mask (face coverings). People who are infected but are asymptomatic play a part in the spread of COVID 19 in communities. The guidelines mandates that masks or face coverings be worn state-wide and must be combined with social distancing and handwashing.
"It was wonderful to see all these art submissions and am so impressed with not only their creativity, but their powerful messages that reflect their understanding of the importance of wearing masks, the possible consequences, and their concern for their community," said Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva. "It was very hard to pick the top three because I truly believe they are all winners with powerful voices."
