Sharon Quirk-Silva Authors Legislation to Recognize October 20th as Arirang Day in Honor of Orange County Celebration

For immediate release:

SACRAMENTO – (Sacramento) – Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva (D – Orange County) stood on the Floor of the Assembly to speak on Assembly Concurrent Resolution 128 (ACR 128), which recognizes, and celebrates, October 20, 2017 as Arirang Day, and would celebrate the culture, and contributions, of Korean Americans to California.

“I ask the Assembly to join me in recognizing, and celebrating, this great tradition that honors the culture and contributions of Korean Americans to California,” said Quirk-Silva. “A state recognized Arirang Day will help empower the Korean community throughout California, and invigorate our local economy through a celebration of customs and culture during the 33rd Annual Arirang Festival in Orange County, California.”

The Arirang Festival began in 1981, in Garden Grove, under the name Korea Day, and then changed to the Orange County Korean Festival. In 2013, the name was changed again to the Arirang Festival, and moved to Buena Park. The Korean American community supports the Korean American Festival Foundation of Orange County supports, which will hold the 33rd Annual Arirang Festival from October 19 through October 22, 2017 in the city of Buena Park, California.
