FULLERTON â Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva (Orange County) released the following statement after her appointment to the California Public Library Construction and Renovation Board by State Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon.
âI am eager to help the board identify the ever-adapting needs of the modern public library. Libraries are important local resources that should be seen as a gathering point for the community, an up-to-date source of information, and a preserve of local history,â said Quirk-Silva. âLibraries also need to stay on the cutting edge of modern teaching philosophies, and incorporate resources that will better assist workforce development in all vocations.â
In addition to making decisions on whether to issue bond funding to finance public library construction and renovation, the board also establishes policies, rules and regulations.
âAs a teacher for over 30 years, I know that libraries are not only central to a community, but to democracy itself, and effect change in the very community where it stands,â said Quirk-Silva. âI am honored to be selected to serve on a body that helps our stateâs public library system for future generations.â
