Orange County Legislators Urge Diplomatic Resolve with North Korea

For immediate release:

ORANGE COUNTY — This week, on the 72nd anniversary of National Liberation Day of Korea, Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva (Fullerton) sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson concerning U.S. policy towards North Korea, in reference to the recent rise in tensions between the two nations. Joining in the chorus of other responsible leaders from around the country, Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva, and Assemblymember Tom Daly (Anaheim) signed the letter to urge the Administration to adhere to the diplomatic approach the Secretary recently articulated.

“I want to express my profound concern over the statements previously made by President Trump last week. His words dramatically increased tensions with North Korea, and caused further fear of nuclear war,” said Quirk-Silva. “This rhetoric is dangerous, and instead requires a diplomatic and more level-headed approach.”

The letter continues to support Tillerson’s recent diplomatic approach “calling for direct talks with North Korea and offering assurances that our country is not their enemy and does not seek war or regime change.”

“We wish for freedom, peace, and well-being for the people of the United States and the Republic of Korea, against constant threat from North Korea. We look forward to supporting the administration’s diplomatic initiatives and avoid potential war that will harm the Korean community in Orange County, and throughout America,” said Quirk-Silva.
