Quirk-Silva to Chair Business Development and Partnership Efforts in the Assembly

For immediate release:

(SACRAMENTO) - California State Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk Silva (D-Orange County) has been appointed by Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon as Chair of the Assembly’s Committee on Jobs, Economic Development, and the Economy (JEDE).

"As the Chair of JEDE, I will partner with California’s leaders to focus on issues that support business development, job growth and upward mobility for all Californians," said Quirk Silva. "We will be looking for sound economic development practices that remove regulatory barriers and result in measurable returns on the state's investment."

California's $2.45 trillion economy in 2015 is the product of the 19.4 million people in its workforce and the over four million in-state businesses. California's significant GDP ranks the state as having the 6th largest economy in the world, larger than both Canada ($1.55 trillion) and Russia ($1.32 trillion).

"Leading the State Assembly's economic development efforts provides an opportunity to highlight the emerging and innovative businesses that drive California's economy. I am looking forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the isle to continue the state's economic prosperity."

“I also want to extend my appreciation to Assembly Speaker Rendon for placing his confidence in my leadership and in promoting our shared vision of a strong vibrant California economy,” Quirk Silva said.

The JEDE Committee is responsible for oversight and policy development in key issue areas relating to small businesses, international trade, private investment in historically underserved communities, workforce preparation, infrastructure, business competitiveness, and emerging industries, such as cleantech, biotech, and advanced manufacturing.
