Voice of OC: OC Property Taxes Can Be Postponed for People Who Lose Income from Virus Shutdown

With families across OC and the state losing jobs and income from public health shutdowns, officials say those who can pay property taxes by the April 10 deadline are still required to, while people who are facing hardship from coronavirus and its related closures can request a waiver of late penalties.

County tax officials are expecting about $2 billion dollars in April, which largely finances local cities, school districts and county government operations. Another installment of taxes are due in December.

City of Buena Park - City Hall Councilmembers held an emergency meeting on Tuesday, March 17 and voted to declare an emergency and close city hall to the public.

OC Register: Drive-thru Coronavirus testing begins at 2 OC locations

A pair of medical centers in Orange County are the first local health facilities to begin drive-thru swabbing for the novel coronavirus.

The two sites on Monday, March 16, set up outdoor stations to swab the nose or throat of people seeking to be tested for the infection. Both facilities running the drive-thru testing are part of the Providence health system, but a spokesman for Providence would not confirm the locations.

The infection has led to at least 68 deaths around the country, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Korea Times: State Assemblymember Supports Taekwondo Day

A resolution to enact September 4th as "Taekwondo Day" is proposed to the state legislature every year. 

In order for the resolution to be finally adopted, a letter of support is needed from the residents. The Office of Quirk-Silva is aiming to submit a letter of support from thousands of residents before August. Residents who wish to join in the resolution should contact the District Office.

Washington Post: Coronavirus Updates

California reported its first death related to the Coronavirus.

In Placer County Public Health officials announced that a patient who had tested positive for COVID-19 after returning from a cruise to Mexico last month died.

The individual was an elderly adult with underlying health conditions and was the county’s second confirmed case of COVID-19, reported Tuesday night. Officials said that close contacts of the patient were being quarantined and monitored for the illness.
