This May 29, Memorial Day, is a solemn time to honor the men and women who lost their lives defending our nation.
Memorial Day is the time when Americans remember those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Since the first colonial soldiers took up arms in 1775 to fight for independence, more than a million American service members have died in the wars and conflicts this nation has fought.
This year, we should pay special attention to those Californians who gave all so the rest of us could live free. Congress has also designated May as National Military Appreciation Month to ensure the nation is given the opportunity to publicly demonstrate our gratitude for the sacrifices and successes made by our service members - past and present.
Please join with me in honoring these American heroes. I will be participating in local Memorial Day events throughout the district and paying tribute to Californians who died in service.
