Informational Hearing: The Future of K-12 Career Technical Education in California

 

Please join Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva, Chair of the Jobs Committee, Patrick O'Donnell, Chair of the Assembly Education Committee, Assemblymember Kevin McCarty, Chair of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Education Finance, and Assemblymember Autumn Burke, Chair of theSelect Comittee on Career Technical Education Assembly Select Committee on Career Technical Education, for an informational hearing on The Future of K-12 Career Technical Education (CTE) in California.

CTE prepares students for the world of work by introducing them to workplace competencies, and makes academic content accessible to students by providing it in a hands-on context. In this way, students develop career-relevant, real-world 21st century skills.

The hearing will provide an overview of the current state of CTE in California schools and will showcase a number of successful CTE programs. Finally, the hearing will include a discussion of the challenges, and barriers facing CTE in the future, including the need for ongoing funding.

There will be an opportunity for public comment at the conclusion of the hearing.
