I wanted to take a moment to wish you a safe and happy weekend as we celebrate the 242 nd anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

As we enjoy this holiday with family and friends, please take a moment to recognize those who bravely sacrificed their lives to ensure freedom and liberty for all Americans.

There are many celebrations throughout the 65th Assembly District and I invite you to join me as we commemorate this important moment in our nation's history. Below are some events happening in and around our Orange County district:

4th of July Safety Tips For Your Family and Pets

CAL FIRE's Office of the State Fire Marshal has the following tips:

  • Local ordinances should be verified before purchasing and/or using fireworks.
  • Always read directions.
  • Always have an adult present.
  • Use fireworks outdoors only.
  • Never use near dry grass or other flammable materials.
  • Light one at a time.
  • Keep a safe distance.
  • Never point or throw fireworks at another person.
  • Never experiment with fireworks.
  • Have a bucket of water and a hose handy.
  • Never attempt to re-light or "fix" fireworks.
  • Do not wear loose fitting clothing.
  • Never carry fireworks in your pockets.
  • Fireworks are not toys.
  • Use only State Fire Marshal approved fireworks.
  • Loud, crowded fireworks displays are no fun for pets, please resist the urge to take them to festivities. Instead, keep your pets safe from the noise in a quiet, sheltered and escape-proof area at home.
