Happy 4th of JulyI wanted to take a moment to wish you a safe and happy weekend as we celebrate the 241st anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

As we enjoy this holiday with family and friends, please take a moment to recognize those who bravely sacrificed their lives to ensure freedom and liberty for all Americans.

There are many celebrations throughout the 65th Assembly District and I invite you to join me as we commemorate this important moment in our nation's history.

4th of July Safety Tips For Your Family and Pets

CAL FIRE's Office of the State Fire Marshal has the following tips:

  • Local ordinances should be verified before purchasing and/or using fireworks.
  • Always read directions.
  • Always have an adult present.
  • Use fireworks outdoors only.
  • Never use near dry grass or other flammable materials.
  • Light one at a time.
  • Keep a safe distance.
  • Never point or throw fireworks at another person.
  • Never experiment with fireworks.
  • Have a bucket of water and a hose handy.
  • Never attempt to re-light or "fix" fireworks.
  • Do not wear loose fitting clothing.
  • Never carry fireworks in your pockets.
  • Fireworks are not toys.
  • Use only State Fire Marshal approved fireworks.
  • Loud, crowded fireworks displays are no fun for pets, please resist the urge to take them to festivities. Instead, keep your pets safe from the noise in a quiet, sheltered and escape-proof area at home.
