Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva (D-Fullerton) will be hosting a Community Blood Drive at Hillcrest Park, 1207 N. Lemon Street, Fullerton, CA 92832 on April 21, 2020 from 10:00 A.M. – 4:00 P.M.
“I am excited to be working with the American Red Cross for this blood drive to support others during this pandemic,” said Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva. “I am proud of those who are volunteering their time and donating blood to help those who have been affected by COVID-19.”
The American Red Cross, along with blood banks throughout California, report a severe blood shortage due to an unprecedented number of blood drive cancellations during the COVID-19 outbreak. Healthy individuals are encouraged to donate for patients who need blood, platelets and plasma. However, people 65 and older as well as those with underlying health conditions should not risk going out to donate blood.
Donating blood is recognized as an essential activity and Californians can donate blood during Governor Gavin Newsom’s shelter-in-place order. In order to ensure staff and volunteer safety, those who wish to donate must make an appointment. Blood banks are advising donors that they have enacted additional safety measures to the safety of donors and staff, who also are being screened for temperature and upper-respiratory symptoms.
“I am aware of the desire to help, but some may not know what do,” said Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva. “Donating blood is a truly meaningful way to make a difference.”
