Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva La Palma Blood Drive

The American Red Cross, along with blood banks throughout California, report a severe blood shortage due to an unprecedented number of blood drive cancellations during the COVID-19 outbreak. Healthy individuals are encouraged to donate for patients who need blood, platelets and plasma. However, people 65 and older as well as those with underlying health conditions should not risk going out to donate blood. In order to ensure staff and volunteer safety, those who wish to donate must make an appointment. Blood banks are advising donors that they have enacted additional safety measures to the safety of donors and staff, who also are being screened for temperature and upper-respiratory symptoms.
