CLLCF Scholarship Awardee: Carlos Martinez

Congratulations to Carlos Martinez for earning a $5,000 scholarship from the California Latino Legislative Caucus Foundation I am always proud to see former students from Richman Elementary go on and succeed. Carlos is entering into his 2L year at UCLA School of Law and resides in the City of Fullerton. As a graduate of Fullerton Union High School in 2015, Carlos has gone on to pursue a career as a transactional lawyer.

The California Latino Legislative Caucus Foundation (CLLCF) announced 52 students from across the state selected to receive a 2020 CLLCF Scholarship worth $5,000. In its sixth year of operation, the CLLCF Scholarship Program received a record-number of over 1,266 applications.

Carlos mentioned that, “growing up in a working class family of six, I have always been aware that the biggest obstacle to my success is the financial costs of higher education. I would like to encourage students of diverse backgrounds to seek broader career opportunities such as law and to not let your past define you.” With this scholarship we are assisting Carlos to be one step closer to his dreams

OC Register: Pre-COVID evictions, on hold since March, resuming in San Bernardino County

Evictions resumed this month in San Bernardino County, with sheriff’s deputies processing move-out orders pending from before the coronavirus emergency started in mid-March, a sheriff’s spokeswoman said.

That means two counties in Southern California have resumed efforts to whittle eviction backlogs. Orange County began evicting tenants at the start of June.

Los Angeles and Riverside counties still have all evictions on hold, sheriffs spokespeople told the Southern California News Group.
